October 14th for new MacBooks? Sunday Oct 5th

The wait for the latest revs to Apples consumer MacBook line may be coming to an end, with October 14th being touted as the most likely jumping of point for the new machines.

Leaks of possible new styling for the black and white notebooks have been around on the internet for a month or so and point to a machine that takes styling cues from both the new iPhone and iPod touch as well as the Air ultralight. Pictures seem to show a transition from polycarbanate outers to a MacBook Pro like aluminium shell, in line with Apples drive to improve the environmental impact of its products.

Internally, Apple may be moving the MacBook away from the standardised Intel chipset with integrated graphics processing and switching to a separate graphics chip, possibly provided by NVidea. This would allow more sophisticated management of graphics power consumption as well as better performance.

As ever Apple itself remains tight lipped about any future products or launch schedules. However DHM would caution anyone thinking of getting a MacBook before mid October. The current models are now well outside Apples usual product revision cycles.
