New iMacs on the way? Tuesday Feb 3rd

Apple is reportedly cutting back on shipments of the current generation of iMac, usually a sign that new updated machines are in the wings.

Apples stock inventory is notoriously tight, and shortages of best selling models such as the iMac are unlikely for any other reason analysts think. In addition, Apples iMac desktop range is beginning to show signs of slipping sales as customers begin to regard the current machine as getting long in the tooth.

Any new iMacs are likely to be speed bumped versions of hte current machine, changes to the machines casing and distinctive looks are regarded as highly unlikely at this stage.

Analysts predict that the new Macs will feature quad core processors in the high end models for enhanced performance, while the base iMacs continue with, faster, dual core processors. The iMac accounts for around 25% of Apple turnover and increases in the machines price/perormance ratio are seen as key to maintaining or increasing this figure.
