Apple makes it into top 5 PC makers Sunday May 10th
Figures released by industry analysts Gartner indicate that while the overall UK market for PC's has contracted by 5.1% in the first quarter of 2009, sales of Apple machines continue to perform strongly.
Apples share of the UK arket rose to 4.8% of all PC sales, although Mac laptops performed significantly ore strongly, which allowed the company to usurp Fujitsu Siemens into 5th place behind Toshiba (6.8%), Dell (10.6%) and Acer and HP (22.1 and 22.8 respectively).
The rise in Apples position may be down to it's relative strengh in the home market, while businesses are cutting back on PC purchases and extending life cycles by an extra year, Apple are more dependant on the individual purchaser.
Apples strong performance comes despite the fact that the company, as yet, has no offering in the expanding NetBook market, although rumours persist of an announcement at June's WWD conference, which will also see the launch of the much anticipated iPhone 3.0 software update and most likely a new version of the iPhone itself.
